As you read the book, stop and reflect on some suggested ponder points:
- The bravery, determination and the resilience of European migrants of that era.
- The treatment and conditions for migrants. Are we really achieving multiculturalism, now and then?
- Explore the topic of childhood suppression and Karin’s training to be a people pleaser.
- Ponder on her/your young marriage and the fulfillment of others’ dreams but not her/your own.
- The dilemma of being sexually exploited versus the desperate need to provide for her family.
- Sexism in the workplace in the 80’s. Has it changed today?
- Alice’s plea. Should neurodiversity be looked at as an area of lack of educational accommodation instead of a disability? How would you have handled this?
- Did you feel empathy for Karin? Why? Or if not, why not?
- Would you leave a 50-year-old marriage to finally find yourself?
- Ponder on her journey from a young child to where she is today.
